Illegal Parking

- The city has once again decided to put up “Emergency Vehicle Tow Zone” signs in the St Marks neighborhood in Dorchester, this time on Semont St, sectioning off a significant portion of resident parking spots for “emergency vehicles” that hardly ever arrive on this street. In the three years that I’ve lived on this street, and the five years my partner has lived on this street, we’ve only seen a handful of incidents requiring emergency vehicles. This signage arrives just one year after erecting four different emergency vehicle tow zones less than 500 ft away on St Marks Rd, which had, at that point, taken away significant resident parking. Dorchester residents do not pay for our parking, and I cannot help but think this new signage is the city’s way of collecting fees from Dorchester residents in the form of additional parking tickets. Never once have I seen the tow zones on St Marks be used for emergency vehicles, and cannot comprehend the city’s rational behind adding this zone beyond the want to collect unnecessary and unfair fines from Dorchester residents.
