Description
On October 6 at approximately 8:15 a.m., a Casella Waste truck was blocking Farrington Ave in Allston while positioned in the wrong direction on this one-way street. When I attempted to proceed, the driver told me that I was the one blocking the road. The driver stated that he performs this maneuver every day and then required me and other vehicles behind me to back out toward Harvard Ave or take an alternative route. This occurred during the morning rush hour, when Farrington Ave and the surrounding streets were heavily congested. The situation forced vehicles that were following the traffic rules to back out into a busy street, creating a potential traffic and safety hazard. I have never encountered a situation where a garbage truck entered a one-way street from the wrong direction and blocked traffic in this manner. I understand that commercial vehicles may have certain operating permissions; however, if Casella Waste has been specifically authorized by the City of Boston to operate this way, I would appreciate clarification regarding the applicable rules or permit. I am requesting that this situation be reviewed and that appropriate measures be taken to prevent traffic obstruction and potential safety hazards during rush hour.
