- Description
- I am the parent of a child at JFK Elementary School, and I am very concerned about the condition and safety of the school playground. The playground is more than 25 years old and was not designed for the number and ages of children currently using it, including students in the K0 and K1 classrooms. JFK has also recently become an inclusion school, yet the playground does not adequately meet the accessibility or developmental needs of many students. Parents in the community are increasingly worried about safety issues on the playground. Needles have reportedly been found in the woodchips, and parts of the play structure appear unstable and outdated. There are gaps in bridge areas and aging equipment that could pose serious risks, especially for younger children. Our students deserve a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate outdoor space. I urge the City of Boston and Boston Public Schools to prioritize funding and planning for a new playground at JFK Elementary as soon as possible. This is an important issue for many families in the community, and we hope action can be taken before a child is seriously injured.
