Description
I am requesting that the City of Boston investigate what appears to be the unauthorized installation of more than 30 "No Parking Anytime" signs and metal poles along Old Ironsides Way and Old Landing Way in Charlestown. The signs appear to have been installed by or on behalf of CharlesNewTown/Winn Management using a private contractor. The poles have been set directly into the City-maintained public sidewalk along these public roadways, outside of any apparent private property boundaries. These do not appear to be official Boston Transportation Department (BTD) parking signs. They are non-standard in appearance, do not identify the City as the issuing authority, and do not provide the information typically found on official parking restriction signs. Please determine: Whether any permit or license was issued authorizing excavation of the public sidewalk and installation of these poles. Whether the signs were approved by the Boston Transportation Department or any other City agency. Whether the installation encroaches on the public right-of-way. Whether the signs are enforceable or constitute unauthorized traffic control devices. If no authorization exists, please require removal of the signs and restoration of the public sidewalk, and investigate any applicable violations by the responsible parties. The signs are located along Old Ironsides Way and Old Landing Way in Charlestown and have been installed in the public sidewalk where the granite curb meets the concrete sidewalk.
