Description
The new benches in Copley Square are currently being damaged because the contractor who installed them did not finish them properly. Whatever sealant or varnish they chose to protect the wood is already worn off. The city can save itself a lot of money by properly painting them with a weather resistant paint or varnish, as clearly, the wood will be damaged this winter. Also, numerous benches on the Boston Common are in a poor state of repair with broken slats, and whomever attempted to paint them slopped paint all over the concrete standards that support the slats. Both of these problems should be easy to fix while we still have good weather. I did not take photos of the said benches because in the case of Copley Square and the Common, there are so many benches that the damage is perfectly obvious to anyone who takes a stroll in the area. I realize these parks are shared with the DCR and recommend that the city contact them to make the repairs if the city cannot do so. The city of Boston paid a huge contract to have Copley Square done, so it should make sure the contractor fulfills its obligation to deliver sound product.
