Description
I am requesting a traffic safety evaluation at the intersection of Highgate Street and Farrington Avenue, near 12A Farrington Ave, Boston, MA 02134. When a vehicle travels southbound/eastbound from Highgate Street and approaches Farrington Avenue, the driver has extremely limited visibility of vehicles approaching from the right on Farrington Avenue. The problem is especially serious because multiple vehicles are regularly parked along Farrington Avenue near the intersection, further blocking the driver’s line of sight. In order to see approaching traffic, a driver may have to move the vehicle forward into the intersection before being able to determine whether it is safe to proceed. This creates a significant risk of a collision. The visibility problem is particularly dangerous at night and during low-light conditions. I respectfully request that Boston Transportation Department conduct an on-site traffic engineering evaluation of this intersection and consider: 1. Installing an appropriate STOP sign/traffic control device, if warranted; 2. Establishing or extending No Parking/No Stopping restrictions near the intersection to improve sight distance; 3. Reviewing whether existing parked vehicles are obstructing the legally required sight distance; 4. Considering additional traffic safety measures that would improve visibility for drivers entering Farrington Avenue from Highgate Street.
