Description
Dear City of Boston, I am writing to formally express my frustration and concern regarding the repeated street closures associated with events at TD Garden, particularly along Causeway Street, Canal Street, and Medford Street. I understand that large events may require temporary closures of certain major streets to manage traffic and ensure public safety. However, I find it unreasonable that these closures repeatedly make it impossible for residents to access their own streets. I live on Beverly Street. Although Beverly Street itself is not closed, the closures and traffic restrictions surrounding TD Garden make it impossible for me to reach my home. As a result, I am repeatedly forced to wait until the streets reopen, sometimes for a significant amount of time, simply to get home. This is especially frustrating because these disruptions occur frequently on Fridays and Saturdays, but they also happen randomly, such as today on a Monday. The recurring nature of these closures makes this more than an occasional inconvenience; it has become a persistent problem affecting my ability to travel home. I want to emphasize that my concern is not with the city taking reasonable safety measures or closing certain main streets when necessary. My concern is that there appears to be no reasonable access for residents who live in the surrounding neighborhoods. It is unacceptable that residents are effectively prevented from reaching their homes because of event-related traffic restrictions, even when their own streets remain open. I respectfully request that the City of Boston and the Boston Transportation Department review the current traffic management procedures surrounding TD Garden events and consider the following: Establishing reasonable and clearly communicated access routes for residents of Beverly Street and surrounding neighborhoods. Improving traffic control and detour procedures to prevent residents from being unnecessarily trapped outside their neighborhoods. Reviewing whether the duration and extent of closures on Causeway Street, Canal Street, and Medford Street are necessary. Providing residents with advance notice of planned closures, including expected reopening times and available alternative routes. Considering a resident-access plan for neighborhoods affected by TD Garden event traffic. I would appreciate a response explaining how these closures are determined, which department is responsible for managing them, and what steps the city can take to ensure that residents are not repeatedly prevented from getting home. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope the city will take this concern seriously and work toward a solution that balances event security with the basic needs of residents. Sincerely, Sofya Korovaeva Resident of Beverly Street Boston, MA
