- 😡😡 THE CARNAGE CONTINUES🥺🥺 INFRASTRUCTURE HAZARD SUBMISSION LOCATION: Columbia Road Corridor (Blue Hill Ave to Columbia Rd — Critical Priority Focus: Bird St to BFD Engine 21) ISSUE TYPE: Street / Traffic Signal / Pedestrian Infrastructure Hazard DESCRIPTION: The carnage continues unabated along Columbia Road due to the chronic, unmitigated infrastructure failures of the Boston Transportation Department (BTD) and city administration. This formal 311 complaint documents a hazardous pattern of roadway accidents, systemic failures, and severe public safety consequences: 1. RECENT CORRIDOR ACCIDENTS & ROADWAY TRAUMA • 555 Columbia Road Crosswalk Collision: A major side-swipe/T-bone collision occurred when a BTD flatbed tow truck (Truck T-54) struck a civilian Ford Mustang with enough force to destroy its driver-side quarter panels, scattering debris directly across a white-painted bicycle safety lane. • Nighttime Multi-Vehicle Intersection Crash: A severe collision outside the Upham's Corner Health Center that sparked an intense verbal public disturbance and volatile road rage due to high traffic stress. • Hancock Street Scooter Hit-and-Run: Less than a week ago, a young male operating a scooter was violently struck and injured at the corner of Hancock Street by a fleeing motorist. • Dudley Street Senior Citizen Overrun: An elderly Uphams Corner senior resident citizen was run over by an MBTA transit bus at the corner of Columbia Road, Stoughton Street, and Dudley Street. 2. SYSTEMIC MUNICIPAL & ADMINISTRATIVE FAILURES • Emergency Preemption Failures: BTD's total failure to upgrade the traffic light software layer has deactivated the installed transmitters inside Boston Fire Engine 21, Ladder 7, District 7 Command, and Boston EMS ambulances, locking our heroes in gridlock. • Inoperable School Warning Systems: The entire network of yellow school safety warning flashers is dead, leaving school zone speed restrictions completely uncontrolled. • Crosswalk Engineering Defects: The crosswalk at Dudley/Stoughton features unseen asphalt buckling and recessed utility frames that create invisible "hills," causing pedestrians and senior citizens to trip directly in the middle of active traffic. • Misaligned Hancock Street Median: The central concrete median between the historical Pilgrim Church and the Strand Theater is completely out of line, jutting into traffic and flipping at least three vehicles while BTD refuses to assess it. • Habitual Fleet Lawlessness: City of Boston municipal vehicles bearing the official city seal are caught on camera habitually running the solid red pedestrian lights at the 555 Columbia Road crossing. 3. SEVERE PUBLIC SAFETY CONSEQUENCES • Hampered Emergency Response Times: Inactive preemption signals block our first responders at uncoordinated lights, directly threatening survival windows for acute trauma and cardiac arrest victims along a vital lifeline artery to Boston Medical Center. • Unreported Violence & Road Rage: Structural constraints at the narrow Dudley Street curve force transit buses and commercial carriers into daily side-swipes. These incidents erupt into volatile verbal altercations because drivers depart without exchanging papers or official police logs. • Civil Rights & ADA Violations: Leaving broken flashers, tripping hazards, and inaccessible crosswalk grids unmitigated places the administration in material compliance default under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). REQUIRED ACTION: Immediate quick-build engineering intervention, emergency vehicle preemption integration, school zone flasher repair, and ADA-compliant roadway milling are required to resolve these critical hazards.
