Domestic Animal Issue

- I would like to report an ongoing safety concern involving a large Doberman dog that repeatedly escapes from a residential property on 40 chesterfield st due to what appears to be a gate latch that’s broken or not secure. This is not an isolated incident. The dog gets loose frequently, and the owners have not addressed the issue. On multiple occasions I’ve seen the dog loose, running in the street when I’ve been out walking my dog. The dog has come at me while persistently barking loudly but he’s never tried to attack us. He’s clearly had opportunities to attack and hasn’t but who knows what could happen if he got closer and was scared. His behavior seems more territorial and intimidating. Today we saw the dog escape and cross the street, running directly at a family with their dog and small children. He stopped as the couple was screaming at him and he ran back across the street to head towards another couple with a dog before eventually going back to his yard. Someone approached the residence but the owners didn’t seem too concerned he got out again. They’re aware of how often he gets out and haven’t done anything to stop it. My primary concern is that this continues to happen and could eventually result in someone getting hurt, a confrontation between dogs, or the Doberman being struck by a vehicle. I worry about the dogs’ safety itself along with other residents and their dogs. This is no fault on the dog but I’m asking that animal control please investigate this recurring issue and take appropriate steps to ensure the owners properly contain their dog so he’s not able to continuously escape their yard.
