- Hi there. I live on Woodlawn Street and I am writing because many of us who live here are mystified by the purpose and benefit of the new concrete barrier that was recently installed at the end of our street, where it meets Hyde Park Avenue. Many of us, including myself, are in full support of the traffic calming measures that have been proposed for Hyde Park Avenue. But this concrete barrier at the end of the street is not really helpful for us. It barely improves visibility for cars that are starting to pull out of the street and turn onto Hyde Park Avenue. Worse, it significantly narrows the mouth of Woodlawn that cars turn into; often at higher speeds due to the lack of traffic calming infrastructure on Hyde Park Avenue. This raises the odds of a collision with a parked car, which is already a real problem that many of us have dealt with on this narrow street where we leave our cars. I realize that sometimes cities have to give certain infrastructure projects a second look, and I think this one really merits some reevaluation by the city.
