Someone fell recently on the Shattuck Grove tennis courts due to large cracks and grass. Today I almost injured my left ankle due to the uneven asphalt on the courts. This is a very active tennis court. Please fix ASAP before someone has a serious injury. | SR Type: [Trades General] Park owner: [BPRD]

  • To supervisor/BPRC Director; *IMPORTANT- ----The following work needs to be performed asap.---- --LOCATION-@BILLINGS FIELD sloped wooded/tree area next to stairway that extends to opposite side of field in WEST ROXBURY at the BELLEVUE STREET end of field in between the 2 walls-the upper Bellevue St & the lower wall behinf tennis/basketball courts. --ALL the SAPLINGS growing wild here under the large mature trees NEED TO BE CUT DOWN with pruners/saws etc TO NEAR GROUND LEVEL (& actually stump grinded out of ground as well for long term fix) & REMOVED ALTOGETHER. The pruning would be a quick fix to the overgrowth problem. --Referring to the wild/invasive saplings growing uncontrolled between the 2 walls between the entire length of the walls from stairway to turnaround at end of tennis courts. --Landscape/tree maintenance needs performed to be able to see inside of these woods from street for public safety reasons & the mature tree health. --This is the sloped woods/treeline area between the Bellevue St wall & the lower wall field level behind tennis/basketball courts, --It would be easiest to do it now before the leaves fill in. --It is necessary to be done for visibility and public safety safety purposes & for insect control as well. --The roots from all the thousands of saplings growing uncontrolled from all the fallen seeds from the mature trees above are choking out the roots (like a pot-bound plant manner created by the 2 walls) and the mature trees are suffering healthwise as a result-another example: The underground root system is like a mesh of steel wool choking out the above trees). --the ground would need to be aerated with an auger to loosen up the compacted soil & break up the sapling underground roots. --You can see the treetops of the trees here are dying/dead & the leaves are unhealthy when they come out for past few years. --I've already emailed Abigail Chatfield about this (as well as Senator Mike Rush) & neighborhood liaison Dan Hudson and they're onboard with doing this as is the neighborhood. Jim Hennigan the Director of the WR Business & Professional Association was also was in support of this. --There's an 'improvement project underway currently but for quick fix the samplings need to BE PRUNED DOWN TO GROUND LEVEL/REMOVED WITH PRUNERS. (the sapling stumps would be a big task). --Pls respond with an update & to conform receiving this Thanks, T Rowley, local long-term resident | Is this a City owned tree situated on the sidewalk: [Yes] Park: [Billings Field]
