Constituent submitted the following via email: First of all - big fan. I am a Boston native who recently moved home after 15 years in NYC and I was so excited to cast my vote for you. I am writing out of concern for Olmsted Park and the Jamaicaway. I am a lifelong runner and always felt safe running in Central Park after dark or early in the morning because it was so well lit and traversed. Last night, I thought I would run home to JP after work at Dana Farber. I decided to run along Pond Ave, around Jamaica Pond, and home. I was absolutely stunned to see that there is no lighting at any point along the exterior footpath of Olmsted Park, with a small exception for the area of the pond near the boathouse. The entire path was nearly pitch black and honestly, it felt really dangerous. I could not see where I was putting my feet, and as a young woman the thought of not being able to see a few feet in front of me was scary, whether its the threat of strangers or even a rogue goose or turkey. I am wondering if there are plans to light the footpath along Olmsted Park. I was far from the only person trying to use it after dark - there were bikes, people walking home from work, walking their dogs, other runners. It is a fabulous stretch of public space but so incredibly unsafe, especially in the winter months when the sun sets sooner. We are such an active city and the ability to feel safe when walking your dog or trying to go for a run feels like a basic necessity. With areas like the Southwest Corridor being so well lit, this feels like an oversight. Thank you for your time! | Type of improvement: [Pathways] SR Type: [Electrical values (Parks)]
