  • Planting Request

263-265 Main St, Boston, MA 02129

    CLOSED #BCS-00195460

Resolved. Thank you for your interest in increasing the tree canopy in the City of Boston! In order for the City of Boston's Urban Forestry Division to ensure the success of our new street trees, we require the property owner who directly abuts the sidewalk where the new pit and tree are being requested to be involved in the conversation about a new tree. Therefore, we ask that any New Tree Request for a new pit and tree comes from the actual abutting property owner. Once property ownership is confirmed the Urban Forestry Division can inspect the location for a new tree planting. If you know the property owner of this address, you can ask them to submit a New Tree Request with their contact information and we will be able to inspect the location and discuss any questions that may arise. New Tree Requests can be made via the 311 app, by calling 311, or by contacting the Urban Forestry Division by sending an email to trees@boston.gov or calling 617-635-8733.

  • Broken Sidewalk

Intersection Of E Eighth St And Mercer St, South Boston, Ma

Where is the crosswalk on 8th & Mercer?? It’s unsafe to cross the street there. 8th street is another death waiting to happen. Weird curb cuts, cars speeding around the corner. Put speed humps, crosswalks to protect the people paying a fortune to live here.

    CLOSED #101006619040

Case Noted. Hello, During a recent review, we discovered this request has been opened for an unusual amount of time, and would like to address it. The crosswalk in question was a temporary one installed during construction. If you are interested in a new crosswalk at this location, BTD can take this location under advisement, depending on the safety context, and the number of residents who reach out. Mercer St is slated to receive speed humps in the next few years based on our criteria. We evaluated each area for its safety history, demographics (higher numbers of children, older adults, and people with a disability), if there are parks, schools, community centers nearby, plans for repaving and ramp construction, and needs otherwise identified by the residents of the neighborhood. We are glad that we are able to bring this important safety intervention to your area. However, for East Eighth St we share your concerns about making the City’s streets safer. Everyone should have a safe street where they feel comfortable and free from concerns of speeding cars. We are working to bring speed humps to our neighborhood streets, and it will take time to get this work done. Our program is being updated to better match the needs of the community. Reaching out to your neighborhood's ONS liaison is a great way to make your feedback heard as part of this process. We will continue to work to slow traffic and offer safety interventions across the City of Boston. We appreciate you sharing your feedback on your street and will include it as we continue strengthening our program. Thank you for contacting 311 and BTD.

Obstruction of Public Right-of-Way. The occupants of 102 Howard Avenue, 02125 are in recurring violation of Boston city ordinances regarding the unauthorized obstruction of public sidewalks. Specifically, the occupants frequently tether their private driveway gate to a municipal lamppost. This gate remains extended across the sidewalk after their vehicle has exited the driveway, creating a physical barrier. This activity further violates: CBC 16-12.26 (Protection of Lamp-posts): This ordinance prohibits the unauthorized use or interference with street lamps and lamp-posts. CBC 11-6.11 (Permits to Obstruct Sidewalks): No person may occupy or obstruct a portion of the street or sidewalk without a specific permit from the Public Works Commissioner. ADA Compliance: By bisecting the pedestrian path, this obstruction fails to maintain the required 42-inch accessible path mandated for wheelchairs and strollers. This constitutes a significant liability and safety hazard for pedestrians. Requesting a formal notice to the property owner to ensure the immediate and permanent cessation of this obstruction.
