Intersection Of Waldeck St And Geneva Ave, Dorchester, MaI'd like to request an adjustment to the crosswalk signal for the crosswalk on Geneva Avenue that connects the corners of Waldeck St. and Charles St. This crosswalk is frequently used to get to the Fields Corner train station, but does not allot a reasonable amount of time to cross. Additionally, the lights to turn go on for cars coming from Charles St. and Waldeck St. every time the crosswalk sign is on for pedestrians, prompting people to just cross whenever because it's easier to avoid being hit by a car driving on Geneva Ave than a car making a turn right on the corner. I haven't timed it exactly, but it seems to me that the crosswalk sign will come on for about 2 seconds before starting a 10 second countdown, meanwhile cars are already turning from the adjacent streets and very few actually stop to allow the pedestrian to cross. Some will even slow down not to let me cross but to yell at me for trying to cross in the first place even though the crosswalk sign is on and indicates that it is still my time to cross. They will then drive off and leave me in the middle of the street anyway. Even if pedestrians are not granted any extra time to cross, it would be safer to use the crosswalk as intended if cars from adjacent streets are not able to turn during that time. I don't currently have the means to move out of my neighborhood, so I'd appreciate a solution to this problem before I end up in an accident despite following signs correctly.

81 Cambridge St, Charlestown, Ma, 02129Sullivan Square pedestrian safety: when crossing Beachem St at the crosswalk near Cambridge street, with the walk signal, cars heading east on Cambridge (toward the rotary) have a flashing yellow to turn left. They are focused on oncoming traffic and turn left into the crosswalk. I was nearly flattened by a city bus.
CLOSED #101006375358Case Noted. As part of the Boston 2030 initiative, some traffic signals are being changed from an exclusive pedestrian sequence (commonly known as an “all walk” phase) to a concurrent pedestrian sequence. This signal design conforms to Boston Transportation Department (BTD) Guidelines and meets all applicable federal safety standards. The concurrent pedestrian system is widely used throughout the country and allows for longer pedestrian “Walk” times while also reducing delays for both vehicles and pedestrians. Under this system, pedestrians receive a “Walk” signal during the green phase for vehicles traveling parallel to their crossing direction. Turning vehicles are required to yield to pedestrians who are lawfully crossing with the walk signal. These changes are intended to improve overall intersection efficiency while maintaining pedestrian safety. Thank you for your attention and cooperation.

Streetlights
Intersection Of Arborway And South St, Jamaica Plain, MaThe issue which I have already reported to no avail is how dangerous the Intersection facing south street at forest hills JP is for pedestrians. After the light turns green for pedestrians, a couple of seconds later the light turns green and cars can turn right while pedestrians still have a green light. This is so dangerous! Also, I have been told this is a state road. I do not think this is an adequate reason for the city not to address the concerns regarding dsafety.

Intersection Of Cambridge St And Interstate 93 N, Charlestown, Madeleted reports: 101006281009 101006292970 101006307712 101006309441 BTD displays lack of care for people using crosswalks. Recent responses to 311 requests describe signal and traffic patterns meant to ensure "pedestrian compliance". How are drivers being held accountable? Have you all seen how brazen drivers are, running red lights and cutting in front of pedestrians who are using crosswalks on walk signals? This city needs a No Turn On Walk law, otherwise the "concurrent signals" are just putting people's lives at risk.
CLOSED #101006315157Case Resolved. The Boston Transportation Is Well aware of the numerous movement violations that occur throughout Boston. That being said, they are the responsibility of the Police Department(BPD) to enforce. The changes made to traffic signal patterns are designed to improve visibility for all road users, and to disincentivize illegal crossings, which put pedestrians in the greatest amount of danger.

Intersection Of Preble St And Boston St And Southampton St And Dorchester Ave And Dorchester St, South Boston, MaDangerous intersection. Everyday when I try to cross the street (coming from Boston Street, crossing southhampton street) to get to the redline Andrew station, I almost get hit by a car. The cars coming from Dorchester Ave have a green light at the same time as the crosswalk turns on to cross Southampton street. The cars coming from Dorchester Ave do NOT stop when driving onto Southampton street despite the crosswalk sign being on and nearly hit people every single day. Someone please fix this before someone gets hit and killed.

General Traffic Engineering Request
Intersection Of Amory St And Green St, Jamaica Plain, MaConstituent reported that the current design of the intersection is dangerous, esp during traffic hours. Const stated that the pedestrians get the okay to walk while the vehicles get the green light to turn. Const is requesting that this is reviewed. Const stated that possibly making it a 4 way intersection would so that all pedestrians can cross at once. |
CLOSED #101006297787Case Noted. As part of Boston 2030 some traffic signals are being changed from an exclusive pedestrian sequence (all walk) to a concurrent pedestrian sequence. This signal is designed in conformance with BTD Guidelines which specify a system of walk lights in conformance with federal safety standards and widely used throughout the country. Under this system it is possible to provide longer "Walk" times and shorter delays to vehicles and pedestrians. During the green light for vehicles "Walk" signals are on for pedestrians crossing parallel to the flow of traffic. Under this system turning traffic must yield to pedestrians.
