Snow Plowing/Salting
Intersection Of Thoreau Path And Charles St, Boston, MaLocation: Thoreau Path (between O'Connell Way and Storrow Drive) Service Request Type: Snow/Ice on Sidewalk or Roadway Description: Hazardous condition on Thoreau Path, a private way owned by Equity Residential (The Alcott, Longfellow, and Emerson towers), the Hawthorne/Whittier towers, and Amy Lowell Apartments. The owners have granted the City a right-of-way for emergency vehicle access, making this a designated Fire Lane requiring an unobstructed width of not less than 20 feet under MA Fire Code 527 CMR 1.00. The central section — between the Alcott/Amy Lowell property line and the MGH/Equity Villas/Whittier/Emerson junction — has been cleared only to a width of approximately 6–10 feet, falling well short of the 20-foot requirement. While the western section from O'Connell Way to The Alcott has been plowed to a broader width, the central section remains dangerously narrow. This path is a primary commute route for hundreds of MGH staff walking daily between North Station and the hospital. Equity Residential management has been formally notified but as recently as three weeks ago erroneously characterized Thoreau Path as a city road, disclaiming responsibility for clearance. Please dispatch an inspector to issue a citation and mandate immediate clearing to the required 20-foot width for life-safety access.
CLOSED #101006521168The abutting property owners will have 3 hours after the current snowfall ends to clear it, or it can be reported again as an Unshoveled Sidewalk case for Code Enforcement to investigate.

3 3 H Baldwin Pl, Boston, Ma, 02113The snow plow says it won’t come down Baldwin Pl because it can’t fit….: The street needs to be plowed while landlords of course take care of the sidewalks. there has to be some sort of mini plow or city snow blower that could take care of this, as there are most definitely more narrow streets in the north end and other areas of the city.
CLOSED #101006516331Case Noted. The Public Works Department will have over 900 pieces of equipment on City streets working around the clock. Please give them more time to clear the main roads and side streets. We appreciate your patience. Thank you for contacting Boston 311.
