I am writing to raise a formal concern regarding the maintenance conditions at Draper Field in West Roxbury. The fields are currently in a state of disrepair – poorly chalked lines, overgrown vegetation, broken fencing, and debris including trash/fallen branches make it unsuitable. This is problematic given that the ongoing Billings Street construction has already reduced the number of available fields in the area, placing greater demand on open fields. Additionally, during a visit to the field this morning, I observed two uniformed, city workers with a tractor who were walking their dog and did not appear to be actively performing any maintenance duties. I respectfully request that the city prioritize the upkeep of Draper Field so that the children of West Roxbury have access to safe and functional recreational spaces. Please advise on what steps will be taken and the expected timeline for remediation.

Puddle on a field at Moakley park 4 days after it rained. Boston parks fixed the other fields but not softball #1 field. Volo sports has the permit and deserves to have an acceptably fixed field

I'm trying to understand the scheduling and requirements around Emerson / Rotch field. I live in the area and like to use the field for workouts whenever it is available, it is a great space and I appreciate it being open to the public often. I'm trying to understand what the rules are in terms of field usage. Recently, there was an instance where there was a baseball game that was wrapping up and we were told we could not use the field and it had been reserved essentially all day, despite it only being used for about 25% of that time. Further, one of the Park employees told me it was up to his discretion to allow or disallow people to use the field and I am trying to understand if that is accurate. There have been many instances where I have been looking to use the soccer net on the far side of the field and am told the field is closed. That would be fine except other people are permitted to do various things, ride scooters, play football, play catch, run around etc on the far end of the field while the youth baseball is occurring on the near end of the field. I'd also like to note there is a single seemingly park employee that works at Rotch field that is consistently rude and snide in my interactions with him, the other employees are very friendly. I'm trying to understand: 1.) If there is a public schedule for Rotch field somewhere 2.) How it is possible to reserve a public park for massive junks of time and then not use the field 3.) What does the reservation process look like 4.) Do park employees have discretion to decide who can and cannot use the field at any given time. Appreciate any insight you can provide.
