Pest Infestation - Residential
WE HAVE HAD AN INFESTATION OF VARIOUS RODENTS/BUGS THE ENTIRETY OF THE TENANCY. LANDLORD SAYS "IT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS IN BOSTON", AND AFTER REVIEWING THE TENANT RIGHTS AND THE LANDLORD RESPONSIBILITIES I FEEL THAT IS NOT THE CASE. WE ARE WORRIED ABOUT HEALTH CONCERNS AND HABITABILITY. THERE ARE ABOUT 12 OF US IN THE APARTMENT HOUSE PAYING AROUND $1000/MO FOR A ROOM. FOR THAT PRICE, WE FEEL THE PREMISES SHOULD BE SAFE AND CLEAN. THE LANDLORD HAS LEFT US WITH NO CHOICE BUT TO FILE A COMPLAINT. WE ARE STAYING ANONYMOUS, AS WE ARE AFRAID OF RETALIATION. THANK YOU. | Move in date: [04/01/2023] Owner's name and contact info: [IZECHI (LAST NAME UNKNOWN) 617-947-5484] Occupants name and contact info: [collective complaint of tenants] Type of insect or rodent: [cockroaches, rats, mice, bed bugs]

Pest Infestation - Residential
I’m writing to formally report a severe and ongoing rodent infestation at my building. The problem affects the basement, laundry area, storage units, and the patio, and is now spreading to the entrance areas near individual units. Despite multiple complaints and months of notice, the property management company has failed to take meaningful or lasting action. Rat activity has been spotted regularly in the basement and patio areas, and I’ve personally caught one in my storage unit. The infestation is worsening and becoming a serious health and safety issue. I’m asking for an inspection from ISD to evaluate the condition of the property and ensure the necessary steps are taken to bring it into compliance with Boston housing and sanitation codes. Thank you for your help.
CLOSED #101006030683Noted. Violations found. Will issue abatement to property management company to have pest control treat the property. Please email me at brendan.conlon@boston.gov if you have any questions or concerns.
