What is the problem with the traffic signal: [Other] Please explain: [It's not quite at the address -- that's where my office is. When coming off the Pike, at Congress Street, the right turn light doesn't work. I believe we should be able to take a right there, but it's confusing with a no right turn sign that I believe goes with the people coming on the ramp to the right of the westbound Pike exit. Please check it out and if there can be a right turn from the Pike onto Congress, move the sign to the other side of the ramp to the right and fix the right turn light. If not, then put no right turn signs on both sides of the ramp (add one to the left of the ramp) and remove the right turn light that hangs down from the overhead light altogether, or add a no right turn sign to the bottom of the traffic light to make it clear.] What kind of pole is it: [Over the Street Pole]

  • Traffic Signal Repair

Intersection Of Brookline Ave And Riverway, Boston, Ma

Is it a traffic or pedestrian signal problem: [Traffic] What is the problem with the traffic signal: [Controller/Timing Issues] Please explain: [The traffic signal at this intersection for turning left onto the Riverway coming from Brookline Ave (the northern side) are non-standard. Drivers get confused about the right of way during every cycle. This frequently leads to dangerous situations because left turning traffic conflicts with straight going traffic and does not clear before the new cycle of cross-traffic starts! The current set-up is as follows: A 4-light vertical traffic signal with the regular red, yellow, green on top of a green left turn signal. The light cycle is 1) Red only 2) Green + Green Arrow 3) Green only 4) Yellow only 5) Red only. This is confusing, because the top green light stays on when the left turn goes off. This sends mixed messages: to quote the corresponding regulations Federal Highway Administration Code "Shared signal faces shall only be used for a protected-only mode left turn if the circular green and green left-turn arrow indications ALWAYS BEGIN AND TERMINATE TOGETHER". To improve the situation there should be two different signal faces for for straight traffic and turn signals. If my interpretation of the code is correct the signal cycle should then look something like the attached graphic: [with an optional "LEFT TURN YIELD ON GREEN" sign] . All this seems useful to me but I'm obviously no traffic engineer. So I'd be grateful if you could look into this! Because this is the same intersection as in report 101001504531 maybe the traffic light installation / cycles for either turn should be looked at together. I didn't want to combine the two reports because it was getting too long, and the issues *could* in theory be tackled independently even though they should ideally be looked at in conjunction. Thanks a lot for looking into making this intersection better. It's one of the worst spots in Boston/Brookline!] Is the Pole knocked down: [No] What kind of pole is it: [Vertical Pole]

  • Traffic Signal Repair

Intersection Of Brookline Ave And Riverway, Boston, Ma

Is it a traffic or pedestrian signal problem: [Traffic] What is the problem with the traffic signal: [Controller/Timing Issues] Please explain: [The traffic signal at this intersection for turning right from the Riverway onto Brookline Ave: [north] are non-standard and as a result drivers get confused during every cycle. It'd be great to get this fixed. The current set-up is as follows: A 5-light vertical traffic signal with the regular red, yellow, green on top of a blank signal and a green turn signal. The light cycle is 1) Red only 2) Green only 3) Yellow only 4) Red only 5) Red + Green Arrow 6) Red only. This is confusing, because the green light for the right turn only comes on AFTER the red light has come on and cross traffic has started to move. This is highly non-standard and completely unexpected to anyone unfamiliar with this intersection. The first step in improving this situation would be to change the cycle such that the green arrow is already visible when the traffic signal is green for traffic to go straight, i.e., 1) Red only 2) Green + Green Arrow 3) Yellow + Green Arrow 4) Red + Green Arrow 5) Red only. That would be less confusing, but ultimately, what should be done is change the arrangement of the signal and have two different signal faces for straight traffic and turn signals. As stated in the Federal Highway Administration Code "Shared signal faces shall only be used for a protected-only mode right turn if the circular green and green right-turn arrow indications always begin and terminate together". If my interpretation of the code is correct the signal cycle should then work something like the attached diagram. Thanks a lot for looking into making this intersection better!] Is the Pole knocked down: [No] What kind of pole is it: [Vertical Pole]

  • Traffic Signal Repair

Intersection Of Harvard St And Morton St, Dorchester, Ma

Is it a traffic or pedestrian signal problem: [Traffic] What is the problem with the traffic signal: [Controller/Timing Issues] Please explain: [This intersection is a serious issue! There is a serious car accident, or two, every day here! It really does look like a Keystone Cops movie at this intersection! Could someone please please research how many accidents have happened at this intersection, and then study the intersection personally to determine a solution for those lights for the safety of the citizens of Boston! Change and slow the timers on the controller, add 4 "No Turn On Red" signs, and finally, drop the speed limit on drag strip Morton Street from Harvard Street to the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital and double speeding violations! I've been here 45 years, and guarantee this will solve this dangerous situation! Please look into this! God bless you and thank you!] Is the Pole knocked down: [No]
