Constituent states that trees and bushees growing on MBTA property from the Red line are extremely overgrown, making the sidewalk along Beach St nearly impassable and also blocking all light from street lights on Beach St. There is a fence marking where the MBTA property ends and City sidewalks begin that the greenery is growing through. Constituent is concerned that this makes travelling on the sidewalk dangerous. Constituent is requesting trimming of these trees and bushes and kindly requests a short, polite, follow-up phone call with whomever recieves this case. | Case (SR) Type: [MBTA] Referred To: [MBTA]

  • Constituent states via Contact Form on 7/3: Hi. I was born in Boston 62 years ago, lived in MA for 25 years and return frequently to visit my 94 year old mother on the South Shore. I love Boston and always will. It is an amazing, vibrant and friendly city, but one thing I notice often on my trips is how badly the T functions. Many large European and Asian cities have much nicer and more reliable public transportation. What is being done to improve this important asset to the city? The buses are pretty good and modern, but the subway is a mess. So many delays, shuttle busses, out of service trains, closed segments of major lines, etc. Boston would be an even greater city of its subway system were to be modernized. I noticed on the Red Line, young children looking out the window between JFK/UMass and Quincy and seeing trash everywhere, blighted industrial buildings, vacant lots, overgrown vegetation, etc. I wonder what these kids were thinking about when seeing this. Why would they want to continue living in Boston when they grow up if is looks like this? Also on the Green Line E Train on my way to the Museum Of Art and Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the train went unexpectedly out of service. It was not too long of a walk, so I was okay, but the communication was confusing. Also on the train back from the Museum stop to Copley, there was trash everywhere on the tracks, mostly plastic beverage bottles. This urban grime, decay and dysfunction is a blemish on an otherwise incredible jewel of a city that is my favorite in the world. Thanks for listening. I love your frequent appearances on WGBH's Boston Public. I appreciate all you do for our fair city. | Case (SR) Type: [MBTA] Referred To: [MBTA]

  • Constituent states via Contact Form on 7/2: Dear Mayor Wu or staffer who reads this, My name is Patrick and I have never written a politician before, but I feel compelled to speak up because the performance of the Red Line on the MBTA is simply unacceptable. I have been riding the MBTA - specifically the Red Line - for my entire life. I grew up in Braintree, attended Harvard, lived in Davis Square, lived by Broadway Station, lived by Andrew Station, and now live by the Ashmont Station. Needless to say, I have spent many hours of my life riding the Red Line. The MBTA has never been an efficient system. But, since the onset and "return to normal" from the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Red Line has been beyond awful. It is slower than it ever has been. It pauses more than it ever used to. The AC on trains often does not work. There is often 20+ minutes in between trains during peak commute hours. I understand the snowstorms of February 2016 caused major issues. I understand the Covid-19 pandemic threw the MBTA into financial disarray. Those understandable challenges are why I have waited until July 2024 to write this message. I began returning to a normal commute on the Red Line in July 2022. For nearly two years, the Red Line simply gets worse and worse. There are shutdowns which are supposed to speed up trains - the shutdowns occur and performance does not improve. It is a black-eye on the city to have dysfunctional public transit and it puts Boston in a disadvantageous position relative to other American cities. I know the long term fixes are going to be costly, disruptive, and a logistical nightmare. But something must be done. Sincerely, Patrick | Case (SR) Type: [MBTA] Referred To: [MBTA]
