I called on Monday because after the snowfall there was on access from sidewalk to gent on to buses. I understood that shoveling at bustops is MBTA responsibility. That bus location American Legion and Canterbury on the #14 bus line serves a population of elderly and disabled residents. The roads are narrowed because of the amount of snow but residents are at serious risks even when standing on American Legion Highway to board the bus. I can see the bus stop from my apartment and chose to take try the #21 and 31 route. The sidewalk is shoveled to the end of the Boston Police VFW property line with no access to the bus stop except standing directly on Morton Street IN moving traffic. I had to caution an elderly man to stay closer to the snow mounds lest he get hit by a car. I called 311 1) I expect that the City has some oversight where the T is concerned and 2) Should someone get killed there is a record that there was prior notification. The gentleman who took my call probably is in excellent health and can climb over snow mounds with ease. I could do all of those things once. I look quite healthy but my eyesight is not 20/20 anymore and arthritis says no to any attempt to snow climbing. He asked for my location. I gave him my address and he said PRIVATE PROPERTY. Yes the building was iced and shoveled at the crack of dawn! Folks have doctor's appointments, errands to do and places to go. The BUS STOP AT THE CORNER OF MORTON STREET AND CANTERBURY STREET IS INACCESSIBLE AT NOON TIME TODAY.
