  • Snow Plowing/Salting

1954 Commonwealth Ave, Brighton, Ma, 02135

The even (east-bound) side of Commonwealth Ave from near 1940-1950 all the way to the Evergreen Cemetery was never fully plowed after the first January snow storm, and remains only partially plowed after the more recent blizzard. Since January, cars have been parking directly in the right-hand travel lane for weeks now, reducing this part of east-bound Comm Ave to a de facto one lane highway. This creates especially hazardous traffic conditions for cars, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. (These hazards are compounded by the constant double-parking in the area, and the fact that car drivers speed with impunity all the time on this stretch -- this part of Comm Ave is due for a road diet to slow these cars down, and needs a dedicated bike lane too, but that's another story...) Pedestrian and commuter access to the Green Line stop and crosswalks at South Street is particularly difficult in these conditions. And, I also worry for the safety of the people who use the handicap spaces on this stretch, who have been forced to park in the middle of an active traffic lane. Please ticket and tow the cars currently parked in the travel lane (as should have been done weeks ago), and use the resulting empty space to plow to the curb. The odd (west-bound) side was fully plowed to the curb weeks ago using this exact process, why not the same on the even (east-bound) side?

  • Sidewalk Not Shoveled

443 Bunker Hill St, Charlestown, Ma, 02129

Medford Street in Charlestown, where it intersects with Main Street. Part of the sidewalk belonging to the fire station. After I reported it early this afternoon, they did a crummy job of shoveling some of it. But it still doesn't meet the City of Boston requirements. And it's particularly irritating because the part of the sidewalk that they themselves use is clean, clean, clean. C'mon guys, do it right, completely, and at the same time as you do all the other parts of the sidewalk, the apron in front of the station, and your parking lot. And what's this with the machine parked partly on the sidewalk! If I parked like that, I'd get a ticket. They could park that machine on the street, in the parking lot of the fire station, in the parking lot of the Knights of Columbus next door (the Knight would give them permission if they asked nicely). Tell them to get off the sidewalk!
