The city is currently removing temporary painted artwork from the brick paving on Winter Street using aggressive high-pressure washing. This process appears to be damaging the mortar/grout between the bricks, loosening sections of the brick paving, and visibly altering the street surface across large portions of the roadway, up the entire street. If this method is used for the entire street, significant sections of the brickwork may require repair. The work is also extremely loud and disruptive to nearby businesses and pedestrians, and the street is reportedly going to be closed for a month. Why was a less destructive removal process not used first, such as masonry-safe chemical paint removers followed by lower-pressure washing? There appear to be several less destructive options available for removing paint from masonry. I am in complete support of our tax dollars going toward making the city a more beautiful and interesting place to work and visit, but this seems extremely poorly planned. I would appreciate if this complaint could be forwarded to the correct department, in hopes that the city may consider a different, less destructive, less disruptive approach. Thank you!
